The Birkdale Air Conditioning Experts
Birkdale, 24 km south-east of Brisbane, was named by local landowner, William Thorne (of Thorneside fame) in 1880 after his birthplace, Birkdale in England.
It is the location for the Redland Hospital and boasts two state schools – Birkdale State School which celebrated its Centenary in 2016, and Birkdale South State School.
Its population – at last count, fourteen-and-a-half thousand – has grown substantially in the past three decades since the development of the Aquatic Paradise canal development, Birkdale Railway Station, a host of shopping centres and the Wellington Manor Retirement Village.
The average age of the population is 39 years, 2 years higher than the Australian average.
Birkdale was the stomping ground for renowned Rugby League legend, Wally ‘The King’ Lewis.
